Maker Music Playground

Even right next door to the robot maker lab my no-tech, STEAM-integrated maker music booth was swarmed non-stop from opening to closing at this year's maker playground. I had built a musical magnet marble maze, a glow-in-the-dark water bottle xylophone and a bike wheel that plays your hand-made rhythms. Nothing against high-tech stuff with lots of cool circuits and robots, but as a music educator, I see a vacuum- the more we are technologized, the more we crave the tactile, home-made, low-tech experiences that have soul.
